| About Us Loch Rannoch Pipes & Drums can trace its humble beginnings back to 1997 and a modest Scottish Import Shop and the Pineville, PA Post Office.
The band was formed by then Drum Major Sandy Sinclair (Ret.) and Pipe Major Keith Swanson. Sandy haled from Perth, Scotland near Loch Rannoch in the central highlands hence the bands name and tartan Drummond of Perth (modern).
The formation of the band started with Keith Swanson, a rock musician from Staten Island, NY and Postmaster of the Pineville Post Office, taking lessons on the Great Highland Bagpipes. In no time at all, the five member band hit the streets as the Loch Rannoch Pipe Band.
Since these humble beginnings the band has grown to a full fledge pipes and drums unit. The band is 23 members strong and participates throughout the year in local parades, festivals, and community events and has an active pipes and drums lesson program. Loch Rannoch has marched in parades from Edinburgh, Scotland to New York City to Baltimore, MD and Washington DC just to name a few. Some members have played for Her Majesty the Queen of England, a couple of our pipers can be heard the movies and the band was even asked to audition for a soft drink TV commercial.
The band is made up of folks from all walks of life and musical backgrounds. While some members have come and gone the core group remains today. In late 2002 Drum Major Sandy Sinclair retired. The band moved its headquarters to Fountainville, PA (just outside of Doylestown) and is now under the leadership of Drum Major Paul Baxter and Pipe Major Ryan Myers.
Sometimes know as the punk rockers of the pipe world Loch Rannoch plays traditional sets with the occasional playful touch of the unusual like their foot stomping version of Rakes of Mallow and I Want Candy.
In the spring of 2006 Loch Rannoch became the affiliate pipe band of the Emerald Society of Bucks & Montgomery Counties and in early 2008 began participating in events with Rolling Thunder. See the Links page for more information on both groups.
